Day 1: Arrival in Healdsburg + Wine/Food Pairings

Accommodations: Harmon Guest House

Healdsburg is a charming town loaded with fine dining, tasting rooms, shopping and the sweetest town square. It’s conveniently located for access to so many wineries just minutes away. We stayed at the quirky yet quaint Harmon Guest House and loved the vibe and location.

Flowers Vineyards & Winery

After quickly checking in to our hotel, we headed to Flowers Winery to experience their exceptional wine and food pairing that highlights the unique terroir of the Sonoma Coast. Their Estate Vineyard Immersion tasting features a curated flight of four wines—Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Camp Meeting Ridge and Sea View Ridge vineyards—paired with seasonal bites crafted by their in-house culinary team. This 90-minute experience, available Thursday through Monday, is set in private garden cabanas or intimate indoor spaces, providing a serene and educational atmosphere for guests. The pairings are designed to enhance the wines’ nuances and showcase the harmony between the estate’s produce and the coastal climate. This was the perfect setting to start our wine tasting weekend.

Our favorites: 2023 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay & 2023 Sea Ridge Pinot Noir

Rockpile Tasting Room

Once back in our hotel, we walked across the street to Rockpile, a tasting room in the heart of Healdsburg. Their Heritage Flight includes a selection of four wines, typically featuring one Bordeaux and three single-vineyard Zinfandels. The lineup changes bi-weekly to maintain a fresh experience. TBH…nothing special but super convenient if you’re exploring Healdsburg.

Roof 106 at The Matheson

After freshening up for the evening, we headed to Roof 106, the rooftop cocktail lounge at The Matheson. This vibrant, and eclectic open-air lounge is just above the Healdsburg Plaza and provides a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere ideal for enjoying craft cocktails and seasonal small plates. It’s a TOTAL vibe and the charcuterie board was divine!

Dry Creek Kitchen

Dinner this evening was at Dry Creek Kitchen, an acclaimed restaurant in Healdsburg, California, renowned for its seasonal Progressive American cuisine and an extensive wine list that showcases the best of Sonoma County. Helmed by celebrated chef Charlie Palmer, the restaurant is a refined yet approachable dining experience, blending local ingredients with innovative culinary techniques. Dry Creek is a popular restaurant and reservations are a must.

We enjoyed the 3 Course Set Menu along with a beautiful bottle of Thomas George Estates Chardonnay.

Day 2: Aperture, Reeve & Passalaqua

Aperture Cellars

Aperture Cellars is a stunning winery set in a gallery-style setting, blending exceptional wines with fine art. Their curated tastings are by appointment only. The tasting room is designed to showcase the interplay of natural light and shadow, inspired by the photography of founder Jesse Katz’s father, Andy Katz. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of the estate’s 42-acre vineyard, creating a serene and visually captivating environment.

Our favorites: 2022 Bordeaux Red Blend and their crisp 2024 Sauvignon Blanc

Reeve Wines

Reeve Wines is the perfect winery to visit at lunch time because they offer a delightful wine and wood-fired pizza pairing experience, making it a standout destination for wine enthusiasts and food lovers alike. Situated on a picturesque oak-shrouded bench-land in Dry Creek Valley, this tasting room offers views of the surrounding vineyards. The pizza is cooked by chef in their outdoor pizza oven and it is delicious!

Our favorites: 2020 H. Klopp Vineyard Blanc de Blanc & 2024 Stroh Vinyard Rosé of Pinot Noir

Passalacqua Winery

Passalacqua Winery, located in the heart of Dry Creek Valley, is a family-owned estate offering handcrafted wines in an intimate, scenic setting. With a rich history dating back to 1865, the winery specializes in small-lot productions, including estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and single-vineyard Zinfandels. We enjoyed a relaxed, seated tasting on the winery’s beautiful deck under redwood trees with gorgeous views of the vineyard below.

Our favorites: 2022 Rued Clone Chardonnay & 2023 Lago di Merlo Fiano

We had reservations to eat dinner at Valette in Healdsburg…a restaurant I was excited to experience. However we were still so full from our pizza at Reeve, we opted for an evening in and enjoyed our Aperture Sauvignon Blanc on our patio with some cheese and crackers.

Day 3: Rochioli & Gary Farrell Winery

Rochioli Vineyards & Winery

Rochioli, located in the heart of the Russian River Valley, is renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc wines. Established over 85 years ago, the winery has a fascinating story and offers a semi-private Estate Flight tasting experience, featuring a selection of estate-grown wines. We chose outdoor seating overlooking the estate’s vineyards, which was a picturesque setting to start our day.

Our favorites: 2014 River Rock Pinot Noir & 2023 Estate Chardonnay

Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery

Gary Farrell is an unforgettable experience and a must-visit. It’s situated atop a ridge in the Russian River Valley, offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and forested hillsides. Renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines Gary Farrell offers a variety of tasting experiences, all by appointment only, ensuring an intimate and personalized visit.

Our favorites: 2019 Fort ross Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2024 Russian River Rosé of Pinto Noir & 2020 Westside Farms Vineyard Chardonnay

An extra bonus to our trip…we had a fabulous wine tasting and dinner with our longtime friends Abby & John at Mayacama Golf Club. This gorgeous private club is not only exceptionally beautiful, but it has sweeping views of the surrounding vineyards. This was the perfect ending to our beautiful 3 days in Sonoma, CA.

Final Tips:

  • Reservations: Book tastings and dinners in advance—especially on weekends. Most wineries require advanced bookings.

  • Transportation: Consider hiring a driver or joining a wine tour to enjoy tastings responsibly. We were very happy with the UBER availability throughout our trip.

  • Packing: Bring layers. Mornings and evenings can be cool even in summer. But don’t forget those cute outfits for snaps in front of the vines.
